TWO men armed with a screwdriver stabbed a wedding guest in an unprovoked attack outside a hotel in Dartford.

North Kent Police are appealing for information about the assault around 1am on Sunday.

The two men were leaving the Campanile Hotel in the Crossways Business Park in Greenhithe after being refused a room because it was fully booked.

As they left they became abusive to a 19-year-old man from Edinburgh, who was standing outside the hotel's reception.

All of a sudden they began punching him before one of the men pulled out a large screwdriver which he used to repeatedly stab the guest. The victim's father came to his son's aid but he too was attacked causing cuts and bruises to his face and a split lip and gum.

His son was left with puncture wounds to his back from the screwdriver and both required hospital treatment.

At the time the French hotel was staffed by the duty manager and two night porters.

Manager Lydia Chevalier explained that one of the night porters did try to break up the fight before police arrived.

She said: "He tried to separate it but he wasn't able to do so, but he was ok."

The two men police would like to talk to are believed to be in their 20s and were driving a black Vauxhall Vectra v6 with two females in the car.

Det Con Nick Brown said: "There was absolutely no reason for this attack. It was mindless and cowardly. The victims were visitors in the area to attend a wedding and are left very shaken as a result of the incident.

"I would ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or who has some knowledge of this car contact police."
