A rescue centre is asking people to adopt a 'werewolf' that's been in its care for nearly a year.

Volunteers at animal charity Battersea have been scratching their heads as to why Larry, a four-year-old German Shepherd, hasn't found a home.

He bears a resemblance to the mythical creature and is howling for new owners having been left at the Brands Hatch centre for more than 300 days - nearly 10 times longer than the average stay.

Chloe Jackson, canine behaviour and training manager at Battersea, said: “Like all rescues, Larry has plenty of character and has a distinct cheeky side to him. He frequently has me laughing whenever we spend time together and he truly is one of a kind.

“Being a German Shepherd cross with a big brown fluffy coat, he certainly shares the looks of a werewolf, but this is where the resemblance ends.

“Werewolves might be interested in chasing the moon, but the only thing Larry likes to chase is a tennis ball. Our handsome boy can be a little unsure of new people, but he has so much love to give once he gets to know you.

"He’s looking for a new owner to help show him how to be the best dog that he can be.”

Larry is seeking enthusiastic new owners who will know how to handle his size, strength and temperament.

He’s really looking for a quiet and adult-only home in a rural location, where he can continue his training and enjoy long walks.

The canine is still working on his manners around new dogs, so is looking to be the only dog in the home.

Battersea recently launched its now Rescue is Our Favourite Breed campaign earlier this month to help celebrate rescue animals like Larry.
