Nearly 150 secondary school pupils have been told to stay home following a positive Covid-19 test.

Dartford Science and Technology College in Heath Lane made the decision after a confirmed case within its Year 8 "bubble".

The non-selective school for girls has told 149 students and five members of staff to self-isolate at home for the next two weeks from today.

Pupils from other year groups are unaffected and have been told they can continue to attend classes, in line with Public Health guidelines.

Principal Anne Davis said: “Unfortunately, we have had a confirmed case of Covid-19 within our Year 8 bubble.

"My colleagues and I are following Public Health England (PHE) guidance to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone within the school community and as a result 149 students and 5 members of staff will be self-isolating at home until November 23.

"The rest of the school remains open with staff and pupils continuing to follow PHE guidance in terms of social distancing, handwashing and cleaning to minimise the spread of the virus and ensure everyone can continue to learn and work in a safe environment.

"Home learning will be provided via Google Classroom and staff will support students with their learning remotely."

Mrs Davis added: “I would like to thank the staff, our parents and carers and our students for their support and understanding at this difficult time.”

Dartford Science and Technology College has around 786 pupils aged between 11 and 18.

More than 30 schools across the county have reported Covid-19 incidents since term began at the start of September.
