"This would be an absolute diabolical nightmare for the town".
That’s the verdict of Cllr Jim Halford (Con) over a proposed phone mast in Swanley.
Residents and councillors expressed concerns at plans by Vodafone to build a 15m phone mast in Edgar Close, at a planning meeting last night.
As reported in today's Messenger, dozens of residents staged a protest at the proposed site.
Councillors voted unanimously to oppose the plans which will now be decided at a Sevenoaks council meeting on November 17.
Speaking at the meeting Cllr Halford said: "It would be very damaging to children who play there.
"I do believe we should support the residents. I think Swanley has had enough of these things.
"I do not object to telephone masts but I do object to these grotesque lumps of metal in developed areas.
"We need to ram it home to Sevenoaks District Council ‘No, no, no!’"
