Athletes turn out in force for the Kent 10-mile Championships

The start of the Les Witton Memorial Dartford 10

The Kent 10-mile Championships were held in conjunction with the ninth annual Les Witton Memorial Dartford 10 at Princes Park on Sunday.

More than 1,000 runners took part and the leader of the men’s race from start to finish was German athlete Florian Neuschwander, who had won last year’s Tunbridge Wells half-marathon.

Neuschwander recorded a time of 51min 29sec to win from the Kent champion, Peter Tucker (52.47) of Met Police and Blackheath Harriers.

Third overall was Hassan Raidi (54.32) of Belgrave Harriers and fourth Tom Collins (55.23) of Medway & Maidstone, who had not entered the championships.

Age group champions were: M40 Tony Tuohy (Dulwich Runners, 61.08); M50 Steve Smythe (Dulwich, 60.41); and M60 Martyn Rouse (Invicta, 66.58).

The winners of the team competition were Paddock Wood ahead of Tunbridge Wells Harriers and Dulwich Runners.

In the women’s race, Clare Elms (61.05) of Dulwich Runners is the county champion after finishing second to Helen Decker (58.56) from Ipswich Jaffa. Third overall was Tina Oldershaw (62.17) of Paddock Wood.

Medal winners in the master categories were: W35 Oldershaw, W45 Elms and W55 Pat Halstead (80.01) of Dartford Harriers. Larkfield AC won the Kent team gold from Maidstone Harriers and Tunbridge Wells Harriers. Full results are available at: www.dartfordroad runners.co.uk
