It was revenge of the bangers... as motorists joined lengthy tailbacks on the M25 this afternoon, due to a car event.

Police and Highways Agency chiefs warned of queues stretching between junctions 4 and 31 on the M25.

Traffic heading to Essex from the A3 and M3 was urged to use the M25 clockwise, to avoid long delays - but the tailbacks cleared late in the afternoon.

It came as the Arena Banger Essex Racing event was held across the bridge.
