A pervert who was given a police warning at the age of 12 for raping a young girl has been sentenced for child sex offences.
Ashley Challis was last year jailed for 10-and-a-half years for molesting and raping a young boy.
Now, he has had 14 months added to his sentence for simulating sex with a young girl several times and threatening to hurt her family if she complained to them.
The 22-year-old, of The Brent, Dartford, was given the longer sentence last September for two offences of rape and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
Challis, who admitted three charges of sexual assault, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court by video link with Parkhurst Prison on the Isle of Wight this week where he is serving the term.
The offences were committed when he was about 18.
Prosecutor Abigail Husbands said Challis “wrestled” with the girl and thrust against her. He also simulated sex as she sat on his lap.
“He said if she told her family he would hurt them,” said Miss Husbands. “Because of that threat she didn’t say anything and thought her mother would be angry with her.”
She eventually told her mother last year.
Challis was given a police warning when he was 12 after he raped another girl. The decision was described as “extraordinary” by Judge David Griffith-Jones QC.
The court heard in the previous case that Challis persuaded the boy to perform a sex act on him after telling him he had “something for him to do”.
He also showed him a pornographic Japanese cartoon of a girl performing a sex act on a man and asked him to do the same.
Some of the abuse occurred in woods in Sevenoaks when Challis raped the boy. The victim later attempted suicide.
Challis was said to have had a tragic upbringing, having been taken into care at the age of 12.
Craig Evans, defending, said psychiatric reports gave a strong and compelling insight into Challis’ behaviour.
“He described himself as a confused kid,” he said. “There is an appreciation of the risk he poses and an understanding that there is a risk that needs to be managed.”
