Traffic in Dartford was at a standstill yesterday afternoon after a child was hit by a car opposite the town centre's Sainsbury's store.

The incident occurred on Instone Road at just after 4.30pm.

Kent Police confirmed the child had been taken to hospital with a suspected shoulder injury.

"We were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian," said a police spokesman.

"South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) attended the scene and a child has been taken to hospital with a suspected shoulder injury."

A spokesman for SECAMB said: "We were called at 4.30pm following reports a boy had been hit by a vehicle in Instone Road."

"We sent two ambulances to the scene and the boy was treated at the scene. His injuries included a collar bone injury and other potential injuries."

"He was immobilised to guard against these injuries before beign taken to Princess Royal University Hospital near Orpington."
