SPEED demons treating the Dartford Crossing as a racetrack have been condemned by a road safety charity.
Clips posted on the internet site YouTube.com revealed adrenaline junkies are not only racing but also filming themselves at speeds of up to 130mph on the QEII bridge.
Jo Stagg, a spokesman for the Royal Society of the Prevention of Accidents, said the charity was horrified at the scenes of drivers dicing with death. She said: "The driver at the wheel, in glorifying his actions in this way, is stupid in the extreme."
Dartford MP Howard Stoate is planning to raise his concerns over the footage with the Transport Minister Stephen Ladyman. Dr Stoate said: "This needs to be stamped out. This romanticism of driving fast should not be encouraged. These sites should not glorify this behaviour."
Orionrsjf, the online user name of person who posted the 130mph clip on the website, said: "It’s not my video. Someone sent me. The car no longer exists."
The YouTube.com website also features footage of drivers tearing around Dartford town centre after a night out and daredevil drivers weaving between lanes in the Dartford Tunnel.
Ch Insp John Frayne, of Kent Police, said: "Now this information has been brought to our attention, we can investigate further and ascertain whether this footage contains any offences. Anyone caught driving illegally on Kent’s roads will be dealt with robustly."
