Dartford look to have found their feet in Blue Square Bet Premier after Nathan Collier’s late strike fired them to a second win in three days on Monday.
When Cambridge scored an 85th-minute penalty to cancel out Danny Harris’ opener, it looked as though Tony Burman’s (pictured) side had been robbed of two points. But Collier sent the travelling fans into raptures when his deflected shot, two minutes from time, looped into the bottom corner.
The Darts held their own and almost went ahead when the excellent Jacob Erskine crashed a Lee Burns cross just past the upright.
Goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, on loan from Fulham, made several important saves for Dartford, before the visitors went ahead on 48 minutes. Harris delivered a cross which sailed all the way in, evading debutant Cambridge keeper Craig Ross.
Five minutes from time, Dartford hearts sank when Jennings beat Bettinelli from the spot after Sam Smith had been fouled in the box. However, there was still time for Collier’s last-gasp winner.
Victory at the Abbey Stadium completed a perfect Bank Holiday weekend for the Darts, who beat Kidderminster 1-0 at Princes Park on Saturday.
Burns scored the only goal of the game nine minutes before the break when he met Ryan Hayes’ corner with a towering header. Back-to-back wins have lifted the Darts to 14th, above local rivals Ebbsfleet.
