Officers investigating reports of a burglary in progress stumbled across a cannabis cultivation next to a country house.

The drugs were uncovered at a property in Capability Way, Greenhithe, at around 8.10pm on Sunday.

Officers attended and a search of the property – which is next to the Grade II-listed Ingress Abbey – revealed a cannabis cultivation.

Police are still at the house and inquiries into the circumstances are continuing.
