A car has burst into flames on the A2 - bringing traffic to a grinding halt as emergency services attend to the incident.

A photograph taken at the scene near Dartford shows fire surrounding the front half of a black SUV and thick smoke billowing into the air.

Traffic is jammed on the A2 in the coastbound direction between Dartford Heath and Darenth Interchange, with congestion at least up to Bexley.

Queues are expected to clear within the next half hour, but there are currently delays of at least 15 minutes.

Police and the ambulance service have been contacted for comment.
