A library has been left with "structural damage" after a car ploughed into it.
Police were called after the crash at the Swanley Link building – which houses both library services and a cafe.
Officers attended London Road at around 7.45pm last night where a 23-year-old Swanley man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
He was also accused of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
Police say he remains in custody while their investigation continues.
Kent County Council posted online to say the building had sustained "structural damage".
The closure of the building left a number of people asking what had happened.
HJ Williams provided an answer, tweeting: "If anyone in #Swanley is confused as to why the #PostOffice #library is closed – walk round to the fire station side. There's a massive hole in the wall."
KCC says the Swanley Link building, the Swanley Library and Gateway will all be closed for the rest of the week.
A spokesperson said: “Structural engineers are assessing the extent of damage caused to the Swanley Link building after a vehicle crashed into it on Wednesday evening.
“KCC apologises for the disruption this causes but the safety of our staff and visitors is a top priority.”
