Caravans and other vehicles have been destroyed in a blaze which broke out on an industrial site near woodland.
At its height, 10 fire engines were sent to Birchwood Road, near Stanhill Farm in Dartford. Firefighters were still there this morning (Tuesday).
Videos shared online show several several vehicles including a caravan ablaze on land behind the Ashlea Nursery florist and several detached homes.
Fire crews were working to extinguish the fire which spread to nearby industrial units, trees and vegetation.
Yesterday afternoon neighbours reported hearing loud "explosions" likened to cylinder blasts.
Business owner Sarah Wall, who was visiting her mum who lives in Birchwood Road, reported seeing thick black plumes of smoke overhead.
"I could hear them explode, it was gas cylinders I think," she said. "I think it might have happened here in the past."
Crews were called shortly before 3.30pm.
At the height of the blaze, smoke could be seen in the nearby Joydens Wood and Wilmington area.
Around 12 small firms including welders and a party business supplier are based at the complex.
Classic cars are also said to be stored on-site and this evening collectors were gathered behind the cordon where they awaited news on whether their motors had been affected.
Vintage care enthusiast Barry Osborne told KentOnline: "There is quite a few of us down there doing bits with our cars."
He believes the fire was caused by a gas cylinder which exploded in one of the motorhomes stored on the site.
"The same thing happened around two-and-a-half-years ago," he said. "It doesn't appear quite as severe this time, it was quite a lot worse last time."
Birchwood Road remained blocked in both directions with a police cordon at the junction with Leyton Cross Road.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service advised anyone living or working nearby to keep windows and doors closed to keep out acrid smoke.
In the latest update issued last night at 10pm a KFRS spokesman said: "Firefighters remain at the scene of a fire on Birchwood Road in Dartford. Crews are making good progress. Previous advice to keep windows and doors closed in the area has been removed."
The cause has not yet been confirmed.
