Give us this day our daily bread - and some Brussels sprouts, turkey and stuffing please.
Most churchgoers are keen to head home after the Christmas morning service for their dinner, but there might not be such a rush this year at St Michael and All Angels in Wilmington – where Rev Carl Chambers will be offering 'peas and good-fill' toward all those who want to stay for lunch.
Well, maybe not peas, but certainly sprouts.
The church says the lunch is "for everyone and anyone, whatever your circumstances - single, couple, families - all are welcome", although diners will need to book their place to guarantee a meal.
"Our motives are to provide a meal and a place for community building," said Rev Chambers. "That's why we want to run it. Basically we don't want people to be on their own.
The Christian message is about restoring a relationship with God. It's all about relationships – all through the year we want to be thinking about building relationships and we don't want people to be on their own."
Writing in his regular column to church members, he said: "I will avoid what might be a predicable thing for a vicar to say: “isn’t Christmas wonderful and such a happy time?” I know it can be, and not just for the young.
But I am also very aware that it is not purely a happy time. There’s the stress of getting everything done – not always helped if we’re invited out. The darker nights are not joyful for many.
The pressure of who to see and when is real.
For many, our tables may blossom with an extra person or two: the new child or grandchild, the new partner or spouse, the new neighbour or friend. Sharing Christmas with others can be delightful.
If you’re not sure who else you’ll be celebrating Christmas Day with, then please know we are hosting a special Christmas Day Lunch at St Michael’s, after our morning service.
It is for anyone who would like to come – come on your own, come as a couple, come as a family.
I’ve not been to one yet, as your relatively new vicar, but I’m thrilled it’s happening again.
I’m even told a well-built man with a white beard wearing red might make an appearance!"
Diners can choose a full traditional or vegetarian Christmas meal, and enjoy festive drinks, tea/coffee and Christmas crackers.
