Manager Chris Powell could not hide his disappointment after his Charlton side lost their unbeaten home record against Colchester on Tuesday night.
The Addicks slipped to a 2-0 defeat - their first at home since April 2011 - thanks to goals either side of the break from Anthony Wordsworth and Steven Gillespie.
The first was an unstoppable drive from longe range but the second came when a Ben Hamer clearance was charged down with the ball ricocheting into the net.
The closest the hosts came was Johnny Jackson’s strike rattling the bar.
Powell said: "The dressing room is downhearted because we really wanted to try and remain unbeaten throughout the season at home, but it wasn’t to be.
"It’s tough to take, but we have been beaten by a wonder goal and a poor goal by our standards."
