Charlton’s unbeaten start to the season continued when they were held to a drab goalless Championship draw by Hull on Saturday.
A game played in driving rain and with a backdrop of thunder and lightning produced few chances. The Addicks had goalkeeper Ben Hamer (pictured) to thank, however, for making a number of key saves.
Early on, the hosts went close when Bradley Pritchard saw his shot blocked by Alex Bruce. Hull responded with an effort from Paul McKenna, which Danny Hollands diverted.
Leon Cort was in the thick of the action at both ends, heading wide Johnnie Jackson’s corner before challenging Cory Evans in his own box. Hull appealed for a penalty but the referee dismissed their protests.
The visitors should have taken the lead when Sone Aluko raced through on goal, but he drove his shot straight at Hamer. The Charlton keeper made sure of his clean sheet late on with a fine double-save to thwart Aluko and Jay Simpson.
With five points from their first three games, the Addicks sit ninth in the embryonic Championship table.
