Chris Powell made a winning start as Charlton Athletic manager with victory over Plymouth Argyle in League 1 at The Valley on Saturday.
Powell, who received rapturous reception for the home fans for his first game in charge, named an unchanged line-up to the one that drew 2-2 at Sheffield Wednesday a week ago.
The only real chance of an uneventful first half came when Simon Francis played a long ball to Scott Wagstaff and his attempted lob was saved by David Button.
Plymouth started the second half brightly and a shot from Kari Arnason went just over the bar.
But it was Charlton who took the lead when an poor backpass by Marcel Seip put Wagstaff in and he tucked the ball past Button.
Joe Anyinsah saw an effort beat Button but get cleared off the line by Seip, before Plymouth had a good chance when there was confusion at a corner and Marcel Patterson's close range shot went straight at Addicks keeper Rob Elliot.
The visitors were reduced to a succession of long range shots as they tried to get back into the game.
Nathan Eccleston then made sure of the points of his home debut when he cut inside and curled a shot past Button.
