Three games into the season, and things are going well.

We may have been beaten on penalties in the League Cup last midweek, but we got our first Championship win on the board against Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Four points after two league games, against two of the clubs tipped to be among the promotion favourites, is not to be sniffed at.

It’s still very early in the campaign, with 44 matches still to come, but I think we can already say that we don’t look out of our depth after stepping up a level.

No one, or least those connected with the team, expected that we would, but it’s still nice to have that confirmed after a battling win against Leicester and a draw against Birmingham City last weekend that should have been a victory.

From a personal point of view, it was good to get a goal at St Andrew's – my first for Charlton.

I knew that I hadn’t scored for a while in domestic football – although I managed my first for Guyana against Trinidad & Tobago last November – and I’ve been reminded that my last one was back in March 2008, for Stoke City against Blackpool.

That’s not ideal, even for a centre-half. While no one expects defenders to be regular scorers, as Michael Morrison showed last season, a few goals here and there really help the team, and with some good crossers of the ball in our squad, I think we are always dangerous from free-kicks and corners.

It was nice to get off the mark so early in the season and long may it continue. I’m also told that I scored eight goals for Stoke in that 2007-08 season, so let’s hope that’s a good omen!

After winning League One, a few people have wondered what our ambitions are this season.

It’s a difficult one, because we’re not setting our sights too high, but we’re not going to be content to avoid relegation, either.

We just want to finish as high as we possibly can, and if we perform as we did against Birmingham and Leicester, then you never know what can happen.

The Championship is a very competitive league. Every week it’s hard to predict which results are going to go which way, and that’s why everyone loves it.

We don’t want to set expectations too high by saying we want to follow in the footsteps of Norwich City and Southampton by gaining back-to-back promotions, but equally, if we are on form in every game, you never know what will happen.
