New Charlton manager Chris Powell settles back into life at The Valley Picture: Nick Johnson
By Matthew Panting
Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell has praised the influence Sven Goran Eriksson has had on his switch to The Valley.
Powell's homecoming was completed on Monday when he was presented to the media, with the new Addicks boss praising Eriksson for what he has taught him during their short spell together.
Eriksson took over as Leicester boss in October 2010 and Powell, who had been first-team coach at the Walkers Stadium, admitted he has been a major influence.
"Once you get to know him day to day, he is fantastic for young coaches and managers to be around and you just hope his quality will rub off on you," said Powell.
"When I spoke to the players (for the first time on Monday morning), I thought about when Sven came to Leicester for the first time and how he approached speaking to them.
"Sven is a fantastic man. The way he and Leicester behaved since Charlton approached the club has been nothing short of first-class.
"He is very organised and full of dignity. He said to me 'this is your chance for you to go home - you have to start somewhere as a manager and where better for you than Charlton'.
"He has been great for me and Leicester."
