It was great to be back involved in the starting XI last Saturday – and even better to get a goal.

I had an idea that I would be involved throughout the week as we worked on a number of things in training, but the manager didn’t actually let me know the exact role he wanted from me until just before the game.

He pulled me to one side to say that I would be playing on the left, and everything went from there. I was delighted to score but the main thing was securing three points.

That was my second goal in the two games that I have started this season, and I work hard on trying to be in the right place at the right time.

Not being involved on a regular basis has been tough, but, just like Matt Taylor, who has also recently come into the side, I’ve kept working hard in training. You can’t give up.

I’m generally a fit lad and base my game on working hard for the team, but I had to come off after about 75 minutes because I was cramping up. That’s just because I haven’t played 90 minutes of competitive football for a while.

I got a wonderful reception from the fans as well. I went to a supporters’ event in Ashford on Thursday with Chris Solly and it was great to talk to everyone. We have a great bunch of fans, as I’ve known since I started at the club when I was eight years old. I’m a Charlton boy and will always give 100% .

There was a lot of talk after the game about it being only our first home win on a Saturday this season. It’s one of those statistics that looks strange and reveals something, without telling the full story.

There is no question that we want to improve our home form, but equally it doesn’t reveal how we have done this season.

We have won home games this term, notably against two of the division’s best sides, Cardiff City and Leicester City, and most people would agree we deserved to win games against the likes of Hull City and Blackburn Rovers.

Michael Appleton will be in charge of Blackburn this week for his first match, so it will be a tough game, but we have to try and build on the momentum gained after two league wins in a row.
