Charlton Athletic's Scott Wagstaff writes for the KM Group

It's been a great start for me but also for the team with three wins out of three but I know I’ve got to keep performing to keep my place in the starting XI.

Danny Green has come in from Dagenham this summer and impressed during pre-season, so I know my position will be under threat but it’s down to the gaffer’s decision.

I know that if I don’t perform, he’s going to come into the team and I’ll probably have to score in every game this season just to keep my place!

But I do get on well with Danny and it’s going to be a good challenge for me to play every week – I’m just happy to be playing and scoring goals.

There were a few reports I was leaving the club this summer but there was nothing to them and that was demonstrated when I signed a new contract.

I’ve been at Charlton since I was eight and the gaffer’s been excellent to me, so I don’t see why I would want to leave. I’m happy here.

I was buzzing after my second goal in as many games last Saturday at Notts County.

Before the goal, I had noticed their goalkeeper Stuart Nelson came out when Paul Hayes had a one-on-one chance earlier in the game, so when he came rushing out toward me to narrow the angle, I kept my cool to go around him.

I still had a lot of work to do from a tight angle but it was a great ball from Paul to set me up.

At least everyone reported it was my goal this week!

My volley against AFC Bournemouth on the opening day of the season was probably the best goal of my career, so to not get properly credited with it in the following day’s papers and on Sky was pretty annoying and frustrating. Dale Stephens was happy, though!

I could have understood it more if it was a goalmouth scramble or it had taken a deflection but everyone saw it was a great strike from outside the area.

I was thinking about doing ‘The Brick’ celebration again after my goal at Meadow Lane but the boys gave me so much stick about it from that goal against Bournemouth, I gave it a miss.

My little brother was the one who came up with the goal celebration idea after we were playing the FIFA video game but he wasn’t up at County last weekend, so it could be something I only do at The Valley.
