Chris Dickson has been called into the Ghana squad for their friendly against Zambia at Leyton Orient on Wednesday.

Dickson’s team-mate Lloyd Sam was also selected, but injury has prevented him from linking up with the squad.

Charlton manager Phil Parkinson told the club's website: "Both have been called up. Dicko's gone but Lloyd has been suffering with a patella injury and that's why we brought him off on Saturday. We need to protect him this week so he'll be staying with us."

Dickson’s only cap for Ghana, who on course to reach next year's World Cup finals in South Africa, so far was against Tanzania last August.

The Addicks have injury problems ahead of Tuesday's Carling Cup tie at Hereford United.

New signings Miguel Llera and Christian Dailly, who both scored in the 3-2 win against Wycombe on Saturday, have rib injuries while a hip problem has sidelined Richardson.

The trio – and Sam – are also joined in the treatment room by Jonjo Shelvey.

Parkinson said: "We are down to the bare bones. Miguel has had 13 stitches in his head; he had to have a couple of extra ones yesterday, and Christian will be staying here while Frazer has damaged his hip.

"Lloyd has a patella injury and Jonjo has a bad heel, so as much as we were pleased about Saturday's result it just goes to highlight the weaknesses in our squad at the moment."

The Addicks have strengthened their squad with the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday winger Wade Small on a non-contract basis.
