A broken down lorry closed two lanes of the Dartford Tunnel causing delays of up to an hour.

The breakdown caused stop-start traffic from Kent to Essex.

The worst delays were anti-clockwise on M25 from Junction 1A at Swanscombe in Kent (A282, A206 and B3228) to Junction 31 (with the A1306) at West Thurrock in Essex.

Highways England said at one point Essex-bound traffic was stretching back to Junction 3 at Swanley.

Traffic eventually cleared shortly before 8pm.
