Commuters faced long delays this evening after two cars collided and hit the central barrier on the A2, blocking the road near Dartford.

The accident happened on the London-bound carriageway between the Darenth Interchange and Dartford Heath just after 6pm.

Drivers caught in the tailbacks said they waited stationary for more than half an hour in some cases.

The wrecked car was moved to the hard shoulder while emergency services cleared debris from the road.

The road was reopened just after 7pm.
