Two goalkeeping howlers by Louis Wells sent Dartford crashing out of the FA Cup on Tuesday night.
The 25-year-old, pictured, returned to the Darts goal on Saturday and looked solid in the 1-1 draw at Forest Green. But he had a nightmare in the replay as Tony Burman’s side missed out on the chance to host Port Vale in the first round proper for the second time in three seasons.
Dartford struck first on 27 minutes when Harry Crawford glanced home Richard Rose’s cross, but almost immediately, the visitors were level. Referee John Hopkins disallowed James Norwood’s strike and pulled play back for a free-kick, which Jan Klukowski curled into the top corner.
Klukowski doubled his tally on the hour when Wells allowed his 30-yard strike to sail straight through his arms.
Worse was to follow for Dartford 12 minutes later. Wells spilled Norwood’s long-range effort at the feet of Matty Taylor, who prodded the loose ball into the net.
Former Ebbsfleet striker Magno Vieira came off the bench for Forest Green and scored from a narrow angle in stoppage-time to compound Dartford’s misery.
