Vehicle fire causes drivers at Dartford Crossing tunnels to face long delays on M25

Drivers are still facing delays after a vehicle fire closed the Dartford Crossing tunnels earlier today.

There are queues on the M25 anticlockwise from J1A A206, Dartford, to J31 A1306 Lakeside as a result of the incident.

However, all lanes have now reopened.

The fire was in the east tunnel and all traffic was being held with fire crews working to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesman for National Highways confirmed the A282 northbound Dartford Crossing east tunnel was blocked and later closed as well as the west tunnel.

Both tunnels have now reopened, however there are still delays.

A spokesman for the Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed three fire engines attended, as well as two from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, and crews extinguished the flames with hose reel jets.

No injuries were reported.

This isn’t the first vehicle fire that has caused mayhem today.

A van fire that happened on another part of the M25 this morning is set to continue causing traffic chaos into this evening’s rush hour.

Traffic was being held clockwise on the motorway from junction 5 on the M26 and the A21 in Sevenoaks up until the Clacket Lane services this morning, now two of four lanes have reopened.
