Dartford signs up to become Portas Pilot

Dartford has entered the ring to secure part of a £1 million scheme to rejuvenate British high streets.

The council made a last-minute application for a share of the cash, which was made available as part of retail guru Mary Portas' review into ailing town centres last year.

The Secret Shopper star was appointed by David Cameron to assess them.

If Dartford is successful they will be in line for £79,000 and town centre chiefs have drawn up a list of plans of how to use the money.

Council leader Jeremy Kite spoke exclusively to the Dartford Messenger this week to outline his vision for the town's future.
