Traffic delays at Dartford Crossing and tunnel after vehicle fire and two-vehicle accident between Dartford and Lakeside

Two separate incidents, including a two-vehicle crash and a car fire, are causing delays at the Dartford Tunnel.

All traffic had been temporarily stopped on the A282 northbound at the Dartford Crossing while emergency services responded on scene.

Now, the incident has been cleared and the northbound westbore tunnel has fully reopened.

In its most recent update at 5.04pm, National Highways, said: “A 30-minute delay remains on the approach to the crossing but this should now start to ease.

“Thank you for your patience this evening.”

In an earlier post on X, formerly Twitter, National Highways warned of “long delays” and 2.5 miles of congestion due to the fire.

It said: “Traffic has been stopped due to a vehicle fire.

“Emergency services are on scene and the vehicle has now been extinguished and is cooling down.

“Long delays are building on the approach.”

It comes after a separate incident earlier this afternoon when two vehicles crashed in the northbound westbore tunnel.

Following the incident traffic was queueing between junction 1A A206 Dartford to junction 31 A1306 Lakeside/Purfleet.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to reports of a car on fire on the A282 in Dartford at 4.01pm.

It said: “Two fire engines attended and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, extinguished the flames. There were no reported injuries.”

Fire crews stopped at 4.25pm.

The police have been contacted for more information.
