A2 blocked by vehicle fire near Darenth Interchange

There are more than three miles of tailbacks on the A2 this afternoon after a vehicle caught fire on the hard shoulder.

The east-bound carriageway is closed near the M25 J2 (Darenth Interchange) but is passable via a diversion which runs around the exit and entry slip roads.

There is queueing traffic due to the car fire and an oil spillage.

The incident started at around 12.10pm and congestion is back to Bexley.

Drivers are being advised to approach with caution and expect delays of around 30 minutes.

The fire is out and emergency services have left the scene, but diversions are still in place.

There are no reports of casualties.
