A crash which gridlocked the A2 and stretched back miles to the M2 has now cleared.

Traffic experts were earlier warning of long delays after the accident on the A2 London-bound between the turn-off for Northfleet and Ebbsfleet and the Bean junction.

At its height congestion tailed back as far back as J2 for the M2 for Strood and Rochester.

Several cars had been blocking the outside lane after the crash at just before 6am, but these have now moved on.

A police spokesman said the vehicles involved were moved to the hard shoulder and no serious injuries were reported.
