A child pretending to have lost a toy in a disabled man's garden was used as a distraction while the victim's house was ransacked.
The boy, aged around nine to 11, knocked on the vulnerable Dartford householder's door to ask if he could retrieve a toy.
After searching the back garden of his Wyvern Close home with the child, the 62-year-old went back inside.
He went upstairs and discovered a man in his bedroom rifling through his belongings.
The victim shouted at the man and the child, who then fled - having stolen a Rotary Monza watch and £400.
Detectives have now released an efit - created with the victim's help - of a man they believe is responsible.
The suspect is described as white, stocky, around 5ft 8in, aged 35 to 40 with brown hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt and dark trousers.
The burglary happened at around midday on Friday, June 7.
