The Prime Minister made an appearance in Kent at the weekend but it wasn’t for a business meeting or a talk.
Rishi Sunak came to Brookland Lakes, in Princes Road, Dartford on Saturday (July 29) to help the Dartford and Crayford Sea Cadets paint the King George VI building and celebrate the branch’s 80th anniversary.
Gareth Johnson MP for Dartford said the visit was arranged for the Prime Minister to meet the cadets as part of the unit’s Local Community Projects initiative.
The PM was greeted onboard by the Commanding Officer, Petty Officer (SCC) Kai Sargeson, the MP for Dartford, Gareth Johnson, Mayor of Dartford Councillor Rosanna Currans and deputy mayor Councillor Andy Lloyd and the Mayor's cadet, Able Cadet Molly Sargeson.
Commanding Officer, Petty Officer (SCC) Kai Sargeson said: “He met with both Cadets, Uniformed volunteers, Unit management Team and parents of the cadets, then all got stuck into the painting.”
Mr Johnson added: “The Prime Minister, the mayor and I all had a go at painting, although I’m not sure how good the standard was.”
The unit has just opened its recruiting program for September and is asking anyone aged between 10 and 18 years old who is interested in joining to contact the unit at office.dartfordscc@gmail.com.
