A DRIVER previously jailed for a double death crash has been locked up again – after being found more than three-and-a-half times over the legal alcohol limit.
Christopher Murphy, 33, was sentenced to five years in 1996 for causing death by dangerous driving.
He has now been jailed for 14 months and banned from being behind the wheel for five years after driving dangerously in Dartford while trying to escape a chasing police car.
Maidstone Crown Court heard that on April 1 this year Murphy, drove after a drinking session, swerving on the wrong side of the road.
Jane Scotchmer, prosecuting, said Murphy turned into Watling Street and a police car pulled in front of him to stop him but he reversed into it and made off.
Murphy, of Cedar Road, Dartford, admitted dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol and having no insurance.
He was jailed in 1996 after killing Kalvin and Barbara Cole in Dartford while at the wheel.
Ian Bridge, for Murphy, said his client made “a stupid mistake” in the 1996 crash and now admitted having a drink problem.
Judge Charles MacDonald, QC, told Murphy: “Mercifully, nobody was killed or hurt. The most serious matter is that in this court in March 1996 you were convicted of causing the death of two people.”
