A driver accused of fleeing the scene of a serious crash on the A2 has been charged with multiple offences.
Officers were called to the coastbound carriageway of Watling Street between the A296 and Ebbsfleet junctions at around 10.40pm on Friday.
Three cars, a black Ford Fiesta, a blue Audi S3 and a blue MG HS, were involved in the incident and the road was closed for 13 hours while police carried out investigations.
A passenger was airlifted to hospital and remains in a serious condition. Another driver and a second passenger were also treated for injuries and later discharged.
Officers arrested two people on Tuesday and now a man has been charged.
Matthew Sparkes, 35, of no fixed address, has been charged with causing serious injury by driving dangerously, failing to stop following a collision where others were injured and driving without insurance.
He is also charged with failing to give a name and address or make a report at a police station following a crash.
He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court yesterday (February 22) and has been remanded in custody to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on March 20.
A 25-year-old woman from Walworth, Greater London, who was also arrested in connection with the incident has been bailed to return to the police station, pending further enquiries.
Officers continue to urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them if they have not yet spoken to the police.
