A BUS driver had a lucky escape from serious injury when his vehicle ploughed into a wall.

The accident happened outside Dartford Magistrates' Court in Highfield Road at around 1.45pm on Monday.

Eyewitnesses spoke of seeing steam billowing from the front of the 492 bus bound for Sidcup bus station and then hearing an "almighty bang".

The male driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut free from the wreckage. He escaped with just minor injuries.

Passengers were helped off the bus by staff at the magistrates court. Five people were taken to Dartford's Darent Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
