Roadworks on a busy main route in and out of a town are set to cause disruption to drivers this summer.
The SGN works will be taking place on a stretch of London Road in Swanley for more than a month.
The gas company will be replacing around 250m of the old metal mains along the road with a new plastic pipe.
Work will begin on Friday, July 23, and is expected to be completed by Friday, August 29.
Signed diversions will be in place for drivers during this time, and there will be a ‘give and take’ system in place where one side of a road will be closed off.
Between Monday, August 11 and Friday, August 29, both Beechenlea Lane and Salisbury Avenue will be shut at their respective junctions with London Road.
SGN says the new pipe will ensure nearby homes and businesses “continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas for many years to come”.
Separate gas works, which are being carried out by Harlaxton Gas Networks Limited, are currently taking place on the road near Searles Court and are expected to be completed by Wednesday, April 16.
Additional KCC works will be beginning on the same part of the road at 8am on April 15, which will last until 5pm on April 24.
There will be some carriageway incursion during this time period.
London Road is the main route through Swanley and leads to Bartholomew Way, which goes towards Dartford, and Swanley Lane, which goes towards Hextable – as well as back towards the Swanley Interchange and M25.
At the end of last year, a petition was launched to make utility companies carrying out roadworks in the town pay a daily rate to keep roads shut.
Residents previously reported that they had been experiencing “havoc” due to the “constant” works taking place in and around the area.
Plans to build a Lidl in the town were also approved last January, which will involve a new five-arm roundabout from London Road into land known as Broom Hill being built.
It is not yet known when these works will be taking place.
