The incident happened close to junction 3 at around 7.30am and resulted in fuel being spilt on the road.

National Highways warned drivers and asked those travelling to allow extra time for their journey.

Initially, the motorway was completely shut off to traffic. At around 9.38am, one lane out of four was reopened.

As of 1.14pm, nearly four hours later, it was confirmed that the road had fully opened and traffic conditions were returning to normal.

A police spokesman confirmed their attendance after being called to a three-vehicle collision.

They added: “Officers are currently at the scene alongside Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service.”

It is not yet known if there have been any injuries as a result of the incident.
