Drivers using the Dartford Crossing were left furious last night when the movement of a huge 'abnormal load' saw them held up more than an hour.

Motorists were warned last month, that a series of slow-moving, abnormal loads will delay their journeys across two evenings this month.

But on social media people suggested a lack of signage leading up to the crossing to remind them, meant they were caught unaware.

Three transformers were being moved overnight from Littlebrook Power Station to Thamesport on the Isle of Grain.

They were moved on the evenings of Saturday, July 16, and last night.

Some people, stranded with loved ones, tried to make the best of a bad situation - but for others the hold ups caused huge problems.

Highways England warned back in June that traffic would be held up for 30 minutes, but it was more than double that as drivers were caught in a standstill for more than an hour.

The loads were too heavy to use the A206 Cotton Lane bridge over the A282 at junction 1a and therefore needed to use parts of the A282 and its crossovers to travel from the west side of the junction to the east side.
