Delays are finally easing on the approach to the Dartford Crossing this morning after huge tailbacks overnight which saw people trapped in their cars for hours.
Some motorists reported being stuck on the Kent side of the crossing for five hours, and took to social media to express their frustration.
The delays were caused by overnight roadworks, and while all lanes are now open traffic remains very heavy in the area.
It is the latest incident in a string of incidents at the crossing and has led to calls for a public inquiry into the operation of the crossing.
More than 12,000 people have already signed a petition calling for an inquiry.
Highways England insists removing toll booths at the crossing has sped up journey times, saving motorists an average of six minutes.
