Elderly man critically injured in road crash

A pensioner is fighting for his life after a collision with a car.

The 80-year-old man was driving a mobility scooter when it collided with a black Ford Focus.

Police were called to the scene on Watling Street with the junction of Lingfield Avenue, Dartford, just before 4pm Tuesday.

The road was closed for five hours by Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit and traffic diverted around the scene.

The elderly man, who has not been named, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Romford Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.

The driver of the car was not injured and is helping Kent Police with their inquiries. No arrests have been made.

Crews from Dartford Fire Station, in Watling Street, were not called to the incident but did see three ambulances rushing to the scene.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Spokesman said: "The road was closed for hours. We weren't sure what was going on.

"Fortunately, we weren't called out to any incidents as we wouldn't have been able to drive down Watling Street."
