Charlton Athletic moved nine points clear at the top of nPower League 1, but they needed a helping hand from home keeper Artur Krysiak to claim the points at Exeter City.

The Grecians' Polish goalkeeper made a mess of a miscued cross from Danny Green (pictured), which found its way into the net 10 minutes into the second half.

Manager Chris Powell named an unchanged side for the game, but in the first half Charlton struggled to create openings against a resolute home side.

The best chance of the first half fell to Charlton's former Exeter man Matty Taylor whose overhead kick was cleared off the line by Richard Duffy.

Krysiak had a let-off when he fumbled Johnnie Jackson's curling free-kick but while the keeper got away with that he was not so lucky when he completely misjudged Green's near post cross which he pushed onto the post and in.

The Addicks could have killed the game off only for Yann Kermorgant to head wide from Bradley Wright-Phillips's cross.

Exeter created little throughout but substitute Guillem Bauza almost rescued a point for the relegation-battling hosts when his header was saved by visiting keeper Ben Hamer.

The win was Charlton's fourth in succession and they have still to concede a goal in 2012 - meaning it is now more than seven hours since an opposing team scored against them.

Their lead at the top of the table was extended by Huddersfield's 1-1 draw with Tranmere, and Powell's side also have a game in hand on the Terriers.
