Two men sought after £10,000 of damage caused to ticket machine at Longfield train station

Police want to speak to two men after £10,000 of damage was caused to a railway ticket machine.

Two would-be thieves attempted to break into the machine at Longfield station, but failed and fled the scene when they heard police sirens.

British Transport Police detectives have issued images of two men they want to speak to.

Describing the incident, which happened on Monday, May 18, Detective Constable Bob Gee said: “Two men arrived at the station on bikes and began removing tools from their backpacks.

“One of them damaged a CCTV camera with a hammer, before both men began trying to break into a ticket machine.

“They damaged the machine, before fleeing the station when they heard police sirens in the distance.”

While they failed to access any cash, the damage to the ticket machine and the CCTV camera was considerable.

Two images have been released after police reviewed the station's CCTV.

DC Gee added: “I think these two men can help with our inquiries, please tell us who they are."
