Photo of West Kent Housing Association’s Strawberry Hill care home in Stone wins Chartered Institute of Housing prize

Photography competitions are often dominated by shots of scenic landscapes or incredible wildlife — but not usually social housing.

That all changed for The Big Picture run by the Chartered Institute of Housing.

West Kent Housing Association’s Strawberry Hill care home in Stone was the scene of contest’s third place this year, an image of resident Fred Fordham enjoying lunch with his son David.

Taken by photographer Sarah Bourne, the judges said it “beautifully captures an everyday moment between father and son, which in turn tells a strong story about the value of housing”.

George Barnes, the housing association’s engagement officer, said: “The photo shows that people like Fred, who have at times suffered from isolation, can thrive and enjoy moments like this with the support of this type of housing.”
