Dartford kept up the pace at the top of Blue Square Bet South with victory at a sodden Farnborough on Saturday afternoon.

Charlie Sheringham (pictured) saw an early goal ruled out for offside amid a torrential downpour, thunder and lighting in Hampshire, but he registered his 10th of the campaign midway through the first half. Matt Jones' cross from the right was headed goalwards by Richard Graham and Sheringham was on hand to poke the ball home.

Lee Noble dragged a shot wide as the Darts sought a second but their task was made harder before the break when Jon Wallis was forced off with an apparent hamstring injury, with the recalled James Rogers coming off the bench.

Graham then went close on two occasions before Lee Burns doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time, pouncing on a cross which was spilled by Jake Somerville in the Borough goal.

The hosts almost pulled one back midway through a quiet second half when a header from Jones skimmed off the wet turf and needed to be turned round the post by Andrew Young. However, from the resulting corner Jordan Merriman turned the ball home to halve the deficit.

Sheringham went close to a second after a nice link-up with Danny Harris and Tom Bonner rattled the bar with a header before Somerville denied a Ryan Hayes effort late-on.
