Rail delays after person killed by Southeastern train at Farningham Road station

Rail passengers have been suffering delays after a person was hit and killed by a train at Farningham Road station this afternoon.

Southeastern said all lines were blocked following the fatal incident, at about 1.10pm.

British Transport Police said officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

Trains were earlier suspended between Rochester and Swanley, with replacement buses arranged in both directions.

Southeastern said the line reopened at about 3pm, but delays and cancellations were expected into the evening commute.

A British Transport Police spokesman said officers were called after a report of a person being struck by a train.

He said: "The incident was reported to BTP at 1.11pm and was also attended by Kent Police officers.

"Medics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family."

At 3pm, a Southeastern spokesman said: "Train services running through this station may be cancelled or delayed by up to 25 mins at short notice."
