A bank forced to close because of a fire looks set to remain shut for at least several weeks into the new year.

The NatWest branch in Datford High Street was left with water damage after a blaze broke out in an office above it.

Firefighters were called on Sunday, December 9, after flames were seen in the four-storey building.

At its height, six crews and a height vehicle were at the scene at the building.

The area was cordoned off by police and firefighters spent the night tackling the blaze.

A notice was placed on the door informing customers the branch will be closed until further notice.

It is understood the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

A notice left for customers said: "Due to a fire in the above premises the branch will remain closed until further notice.

"Our nearest NatWest branches are at Bexleyheath, Swanley and Gravesend.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to all our customers."

As a result of the closure, the bank arranged drop-in sessions for customers at the The Meeting Place at the Orchards Shopping Centre before Christmas.
