Fireworks were shot towards the Just Stop Oil campaigners as they slept in their hammocks on the Dartford Crossing last night.

Motorists have been stuck in traffic unable to use the QEII Bridge for two days after protesters climbed the cables.

Footage has now appeared of fireworks being let off in the direction of the men who have been on the cables for more than 24 hours.

Essex Police said it was aware of the clip but had received no reports in connection to the incident.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: "We are aware of a video circulating online which appears to show fireworks being set off in Greenhithe near to the QEII bridge, Dartford.

"Officers are making inquiries to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the video and to identify any offences which may have been committed.

In a video released this morning, Morgan Trowland, one of the men involved in the protest, said he 'survived the night'.

The 39-year-old bridge design engineer said: "We've just survived our first night up here, I was pretty cold and didn't sleep much but I'm ok.

"We're up here until the government makes a meaningful statement to cancel all new licences and consents for oil and gas extraction."

Although the bridge remains shut traffic is still able to travel in both directions through the tunnels.

However the decreased capacity is causing delays of several hours on the M25 and the A282, as well as congestion on the local roads in the area.

There are also delays on approaching roads to the M25, including on the A13 near Thurrock and the A2 near Darenth.

Yesterday Just Stop Oil said the two climbers ascended the two 84m masts on the north side of the crossing.

They expected the bridge would remain shut for at least 24 hours, today they confirmed that they would remain on the bridge until they were brought down.
