Dozens of firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a house in Dartford.
The property, which is under construction in Halcrow Avenue, was reported on fire 12.40pm.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said around 25 firefighters were sent to the scene.
One witness said locals reported hearing an explosion before the fire took hold.
Crews were seen spraying water on the fire as smoke billowed into the air.
The fire was being dampened down by around 3pm and the number of crews on the scene was reduced.
A fire investigations unit was on site to determine the cause of the blaze.
Firefighters had been send from Dartford, Thames-side and Sevenoaks stations.
A spokesman said crews were working to prevent the flames from spreading.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Witness Laura Cordell said: "It looks like it was a partially built three-deep terrace, one built more than others.
"There were lots of people worried as homes very close by are already inhabited.
"I don't know for a fact what happened, but there was a delivery just beforehand and some locals claimed there had been an explosion."
