A road will be closed for up to a week after a mound of what appears to be car parts was dumped - and investigators say it could be linked to “organised crime”.

Motorists will not be able to access Dean Bottom in South Darenth, near Dartford, while investigations are underway.

Drivers will be diverted to an alternative route via Rabbits Road and Canada Farm.

Kent County Council Highways will deal with the removal of the rubbish, which could take up to seven days.

It is estimated it will be completed by 7pm on May 14.

The tipping is being looked into by the Environment Agency as the waste is believed to be from an eight-wheeler lorry which is connected with organised crime.

The government department has been approached for comment.

The recent fly-tipping is not the first incident to take place in the country road.

Earlier this year a huge pile of rubble and dirt was dumped in the same place.

An emergency road closure had to be put in place.
